It’s amazing to us that a decade has passed since the Poetry Society of America launched our annual PSA Chapbook Fellowship Program in 2003. The PSA has been honored and fortunate to have worked with such an impressive roster of now 40 chapbook winners and the 40 acclaimed judges who selected their work for publication.

Since the beginning, the chapbooks have been designed by , who received an award for design excellence from the American Institute of Graphic Arts for the enduring design of the inaugural set. The chapbooks are copyedited by Elizabeth Macklin, and published with Chris Young by The Prolific Group in Canada.

The majority of the covers are based on historic textile prints drawn from the classic volume Textile Designs: Two Hundred Years of European and American Patterns edited by Susan Meller and Joost Elffers, with the exceptions being cover designs by artists , ,   (recent winner of the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award for her memoir Swimming Studies), and (recent author of Mumbai New York Scranton: A Memoir).

We acknowledge with deep gratitude major support from the Van Lier Fund, The Greenwall Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, Laura Baudo Sillerman, and Poetry Society of America members.

Below you will find new poems by the first 36 poets published in the chapbook series, many of whom have since published first and second full-length volumes of poetry from the following publishers: Alice James, Canarium, Coconut, McSweeney’s, New Issues, Nightboat, Slope, Ugly Duckling Press, University of Georgia Press, and University of Iowa Press.

Volumes 37-40 in the chapbook series will be published this May and launched as part of the 5th Annual Chapbook Festival at CUNY’s 34th street and 5th Avenue campus, Friday and Saturday May 3rd and 4th. The 2013 Chapbook Fellows Danielle Blau, Eric Bliman, Justin Boening, and Cherry Pickman will read alongside poet Matthew Rohrer and two of this year’s poet-judges, Vijay Seshadri and Dara Wier. The event will be introduced by Alice Quinn.
